Smurfit Kappa
Project Description
This project involved the redevelopment of the Smurfit Kappa Group Headquarters in Clonskeagh, Dublin. The proposed refurbishment was of the existing buildings which dated back to 1978-79 and the newer extension which was completed in 1995.
The headquarters consisted of three buildings (Zones 1, 2 & 3) connected via atriums. There were also external plant compound buildings for the existing generator, chiller, ESB and LV Switchrooms. The refurbishment required existing mechanical services equipment to be replaced with more energy conscious systems to meet client requirements and suit the proposed architectural design solution.
The project was undertaken in three phases as follows:
• Phase 1 – Temporary fit-out of Zone 3 building. The Zone 3 building was of a more recent construction compared to Zones 1 & 2 and had new ceilings and raised access floor installed
• Phase 2 – Permanent fit-out of the Zones 1 & 2 Pod buildings. These buildings were of older construction compared to Zone 3
• Phase 3 – Re-work of the Phase 1 Zone 3 building.
Ethos Input
Ethos Engineering were commissioned to provide full M&E design services including audio visual, security and IT.
Unique / Key Features
A new energy-efficient gas-fired VRV system was installed, providing a comfortable environment for the occupants. The system was zoned to match the intricate building layout and design.
The business services had to the remain live at all times with zero disruption to the live IT services. This was achieved by constructing a new main server room in Phase 1 and replicating all active equipment, installing a new incoming fibre service and then doing a change over of the telecoms network.
“Working with Ethos on our recent project was a game changer. Their attention to detail and innovative approach transformed our vision into reality. The team was professional, responsive, and dedicated, ensuring every aspect was executed flawlessly. We couldn’t be happier with the results!”
